Gratitude Earned
Guns flashing Men dashing
Looking for a hole
Bullets fly Comrades die
Buried like a mole.
Smoke and fire
Sharp barbed wire
Digging in the mud
Just rock and sand
A piece of land
Held, and paved with blood.
November comes
Pipes and drums
Play "Amazing Grace"
Poppies worn
Families mourn
Pain, etched upon their face.
Flags half mast
Years gone past
Memories start to fray
One less seat
As Veterans meet
Another passed away.
Our country free
On bended knee
We honour those in graves
Remembrance Day
A time to say
Thanks, to those who gave.
